In December 2017, the JF Maddox Foundation partnered with Nor-Lea Hospital to help purchase a mobile health unit that changed the way Lea County accessed heath care.  With the current COVID-19 crisis, our innovative partners repurposed the asset to keep Lea County residents safe and provide an additional testing site in Hobbs, NM.

The mobile unit, located at 1923 N. Dal Paso in Hobbs, has screened and tested over 200 residents since setting up on March 31, 2020.  This is important because each potential case was kept separate from other clinic visitors, limiting the exposure of residents in Lea County.

Nor-Lea Hospital has sent 259 samples to be tested as of April 22, and they are responsible for a large portion of screening and testing in Lea County.  By repurposing the Nor-Lea Mobile Health Unit, Nor-Lea can meet the temporary demand to ensure our communities have adequate testing sites.  The mobile unit delivered a timely resource for testing, and it was fully equipped for the job.

We are thankful to all the essential workers, including our healthcare workers.  Their dedicated service to our communities and Nor-Lea’s ingenuity are some of the reasons we are proud to call Lea County home.
