Hobbs Campaign for Grade-Level Reading

Why We’re Here

With just 33% of 3rd grade students in Hobbs reading at grade level, the JF Maddox Foundation knew that something must be done. In 2022, the Foundation gathered 40+ community partners, including members from the local school district, nonprofit organizations, elected officials, business leaders, healthcare organizations, and early childhood providers, to develop a Community Solutions Action Plan (CSAP) to guide the work to improve literacy levels in Hobbs. In 2023, the formal Hobbs Campaign for Grade-Level Reading launched with the core idea that household incomes and other family challenges shouldn’t get in the way of our children’s success. The Campaign’s goal is that by 2033, 80% of children in Hobbs will read at grade level by the end of third grade.
