Every summer, ambitious juniors from across Lea County apply for the Jack Maddox Distinguished Scholarship in hopes of earning a full ride scholarship to the college of their choice. Last summer 41 students completed the application and waited to find out who would earn the chance of a lifetime.

Daylan Flemmons, a young girl from Lovington, received the news that she was one step closer to her dream of attending Stanford University. She earned the full ride scholarship and shortly after, she was accepted to Stanford!

Daylan’s dream to attend Stanford was fueled during high school, when she had the privilege of taking special eight-week courses on the Stanford campus.  In her studies, Daylan is excited to learn more about biomedical engineering and exploring ways to create valuable impacts in neuroscience. Her dream is to help find solutions for neurodegenerative diseases.

Daylan is a motivated student, but she is also a caring individual. The Foundation is proud to play a role in helping her dreams come true. Daylan’s own hard work, determination, and character paved the way for a future full of possibilities. Because she is brave enough to dream big dreams and determined to work hard at achieving those dreams, Daylan will walk through the open doors of Stanford University.
