At the JF Maddox Foundation, our commitment to serving the community goes beyond grantmaking and strategic investments—it’s a core part of who we are. Our team is made up of individuals who have a deep passion for Lea County and commit to serving in many aspects of their lives beyond their daily work. Whether volunteering at local events, supporting nonprofit initiatives, or rolling up our sleeves to help those in need, our staff is actively engaged in making a difference.
Service in Action
Recently, we asked our team to take a look back at their 2024 volunteer work and estimate the number of hours given outside of their work time. Our team volunteers on average 65 hours a month; that’s 780 hours a year on top of the work they do collaborating with nonprofits across Lea County. Staff are giving their time to organizations such as: CASA of Lea County, Lovington Food Coalition, Rotary Club, WHI Hobbs, Isaiah’s Soup Kitchen, Cissy’s Food Ministry, Rotary Interact Club, Salvation Army, and Lea County Commission for the Arts.
Kawin Nunnery, Program Officer at the JF Maddox Foundation, Board Member at the Hobbs Rotary Club, and Chair for the Interact Club said, “I have a heart for service whether it be spiritually lead or naturally lead. I enjoy seeing people smile and living a life of selflessness toward others.”
One of the most rewarding experiences for our staff came when we volunteered with Isaiah’s Soup Kitchen. Together, we helped serve food to those in need. Seeing the smiles on the faces of those we served was a reminder of why we do what we do—it’s about people, relationships, and creating opportunities for a better future.
Serving Through Faith
For many on our team, service is also an expression of faith and purpose. Several of our staff members dedicate time to volunteering at their local churches – giving back as an associate pastor, or as a member of the outreach, prayer and information teams. The values of compassion, generosity, and servant leadership guide both their professional and personal lives, reinforcing our Foundation’s belief that strong communities are built on a foundation of care and connection.
Join Us in Giving Back
We encourage others to join us in serving our community. Whether it’s volunteering your time, donating to a cause, or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbor, every effort counts. Together, we can create a stronger, more connected, and more vibrant community for all.
