Over the last few years, the JF Maddox Foundation has been working to lay the groundwork for a downtown Hobbs revitalization project. We have engaged community stakeholders and outside consultants to formulate a plan that will enrich our community.

This year, we successfully launched a new organization, Downtown Improvement Association of Hobbs (DIA Hobbs) to help further our work and to create a vibrant and welcoming downtown district. With a strong start, DIA Hobbs has become a driving force for revitalizing our community, setting the stage for an ambitious 2025.

As we reflect on the progress of 2024, DIA Hobbs was proud to support vibrant events such as Hobbs August Nites, Fiestas de Septiembre and the Christmas Tree Lighting. Additionally, we brought new culturally enriching events to the area including Night Markets, Dia de los Muertos Celebration, and a Halloween Celebration.

In addition to the event support, we furthered downtown beautification and art by beginning a mural at Il Cicerone and initiated plans for additional murals at future locations.

A key driver in our work is improving the overall infrastructure and economic development of the downtown area. In just a short time, DIA Hobbs made significant progress on Shipp Street Plaza redesign and is working to improve the lighting with a comprehensive lighting plan that will be implemented in 2025.

“This year was extremely fulfilling as DIA Hobbs got off the ground and worked quickly to make an impact. It was inspiring to see the happy crowds at our night markets and talk to community members about our plans for 2025,” said Lorena Chavarria, DIA Hobbs Executive Director.

In the coming year, we are excited to continue supporting DIA Hobbs in its priorities to continue to expand businesses and restaurants, make progress on the infrastructure development, and continue to create dynamic events for our community to enjoy,
