The Foundation is most interested in supporting initiatives that strive to obtain well-planned project outcomes. Attributes that the Foundation considers desirable when reviewing grant proposals include the following:
- Proposed focus is consistent with one or more of the current areas of emphasis adopted by the Foundation as defined in the mission statement.
- Appearance of opportunity to achieve significant leverage of Foundation funds with funding from other sources.
- Reasonable expectation that the proposed project will become self-supporting within an acceptable time frame.
- Potential for improving/building upon local innovative leadership.
- Potential for significant local benefit.
In the past, the Foundation's primary focus had been on education reform. Grant strategies in education are now well developed, and funded programs continue to exhibit signs of success. The Foundation has redirected its focus toward economic and community development initiatives in an effort to provide opportunities for long-term economic vitality within Lea County.
